Hebron ‘s Literary Association started a library collection in the 1888. This allowed Hebron people to enjoy books without having to buy a copy.
In 1889, the Literary Association became the Hebron Library Association. The first Hebron Library was in a private home (#1 Toomey Lane). By 1898, it became necessary to house the growing number of books in a separate building. Land was given by the Page family. With a legacy given in 1899 by Benjamin A. Bissell and a $50 per year appropriation by the Town of Hebron, the Library became a free service available to Hebron residents.
In 1998 the original small Victorian structure was enlarged. Modern libraries contain more than just books making the Douglas Library a center for the community.
