Public Garden Space former location of the Jones - Ous House
Until the 1990’s a little one-story house stood here. It was made up of two earlier buildings – an 18th century wheelwright shop and an early 1800’s blacksmith shop. Wheel makers and blacksmiths were the forerunners of modern garages repairing vehicles.
Around the corner of the Old Town Hall, Gill Jones ran a small garage for cars when gasoline powered vehicles replaced horse power in the 20th century.
Think about it
Most cars today run on gasoline, but some are powered by electricity. How might the landscape change if electric cars came to replace gasoline powered cars?
Use your imagination-Roads only came into existence when settlers from England introduced horses to New England. Before that time, Indigenous people had no beasts of burden and walked on paths by foot. Hebron Center was an indigenous camp site for hundreds of years. Imagine what this area might have looked like without any roads.
